Qualstars TLS-6000 Series Tape Libraries offer superior performance and value for DLT and SuperDLT tape users. With capacities from 350 GB to over 52 TB, the TLS-6000 Series economically and reliably automates DLT-based applications, whether backing up a single server or as an integral part of an enterprise-wide storage management solution.

The TLS-6000 family comprises 7 models, providing a broad range of cost-effective solutions. Housing one to eight SuperDLT or DLT 8000 tape drives and up to 240 tapes, TLS-6000 multi-drive library models readily support concurrent reading and writing to meet the throughput needs of todays rapidly-growing servers and networks. The SANSmart Fibre Channel interface option supports the latest lan-free and serverless backup SAN technologies. Support for multiple SCSI busses is also built-in to maximize throughput.

The TLS-6000 Series also offers advanced features such as Logical Library^TM barcode scanning of tape cartridges, and an I/O Port is included in several models for importing and exporting individual tapes under application control.

Qualstar is known worldwide for quality and reliability. All electrical and mechanical adjustments have been eliminated for easy installation and enhanced reliability. Tape drive reliability is improved by providing individual fans for each drive to insure proper cooling. Filtered, positive air pressure is maintained throughout the library to reduce contamination.

Providing built-in capacity and performance growth is a hallmark of all Qualstar TLS-Series automation families. All drive bays are pre-wired: users can easily install additional tape drives for increased throughput. Field upgrade kits are also available to double the tape capacity of some models.

SAN SMART

TLS-Series SANSmart automated tape libraries are ideally suited to Storage Area Network (SAN) applications, especially the latest serverless backup storage management applications such as ARCserve 2000. Storage Area Networks are sub-nets that enable key storage resources like tape libraries and storage arrays to be shared among multiple servers and clients without impacting the "primary" network. SAN provide separate, dedicated high-speed pathways tailored specifically to storage access and storage management.

Serverless backup uses the SCSI extended copy command to control data transfers between storage devices on the SAN without the backup data passing through the backup server. Backup time is shortened and the load on the backup server is greatly reduced.

SAN technology, based on Fibre Channel, is being adopted by other storage management applications, including video serving, image and document archives, and storage migration.

Twenty-seven TLS-Series tape library models support up to 12 tape drives, delivering data transfer rates exceeding 1.2 TB per hour and storage capacities from 300 gigabytes to over 60 terabytes.

The SAN will deliver high transfer speeds, improved availability, and enhanced application performance. SAN architectures eliminate constraints of distance, scalability, and connectivity.

The SANSmart Fibre Channel Option (FCO) delivers the performance and connectivity that SAN backup tape library applications require. Single and dual FCOs are supported to speed backup data flow.
