The DST 414 quad density automated cartridge library is designed to match a broad range of mass data storage applications at an affordable price. The virtual disk capability of the DST 414 library combines large capacity DST cartridges with a high performance DST drive, providing an optimum balance of system performance, cost of storage, and manageability.

The DST 414 4.6TB automated cartridge library system provides a new level of price/performance designed to meet todays demanding mass storage requirements.

Providing an ideal combination of fast data transfer rates, large capacity and reliable robotics, the Ampex DST 414 ACL is perfect for a variety of applications including fully automated backup and restore, disaster recovery and managing large databases of multimedia objects. Performance, capacity, and high speed access to data makes this virtual disk system a cost effective alternative to adding additional expensive disk arrays. When coupled with storage management software, the DST 414 ACL can reduce your overall storage cost while improving data availability.

The library can be configured to accommodate either 100 GB, 300 GB or 660 GB cartridges and can read both single density (25, 75 or 165 GB), or double density (50, 150 or 330 GB) cartridges.

DST 414 software utilities include cartridge handling functions that facilitate rapid loading of a given volume within a set of cartridges. Tape management functions provide tape formatting, querying, and high-speed positioning. Using the DD-2 format cartridge partitioning feature, the 4.6 terabyte library capacity can appear as hundreds of logical volumes to flexibly support user and system administrator needs.
