DST 714 The DST 714 quad density automated cartridge library system is a scalable system designed with the performance and flexibility needed to meet the growing requirements for fast-access mass storage. Applications include online storage, sequential tape processing, backup, and archiving in computing environments spanning everything from digital television to scientific simulations, data warehousing and commercial data processing. Technology The performance of the DST 714 quad density library is unrivaled by any other library system on the market. A stand-alone DST 714 library can hold 116 100 GB DST tape cartridges, putting a total storage capacity of up to 11.6 terabytes per library online in only 7.5 square feet of floor space. By using the cartridge partitioning feature in the DD-2 tape format, the library storage capacity can appear as over 41,600 200 MB logical volumes to the host server. The 100 GB tape capacity also serves to increase the systems productivity. The systems scalability provides over 46 TB utilizing a single transfer rail with four DST 714 cabinets. By stringing together multiple clusters almost unlimited capacity can be achieved. Additional drives can be added to dramatically increase I/O capability. The DST 914 can also be incorporated with DIS Tape Drives to create an instrumentation system. Ampex works with leading software companies to provide backup and recovery, archiving and HSM applications for the DST 714 library
