Sony is pleased to announce the expansion of its Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) format to a fourth-generation strengthening the comprehensive format’s ability to satisfy storage needs from small business data protection to enterprise back up. With this announcement Sony continues to fulfill its aggressive commitment to double storage capacity and transfer rates from one generation to the next.

AIT-4 media is based on AME II technology. Improving upon its predecessor, AME, AME II employs a new method for applying the metal evaporated layer, which results in a tape with higher output and lower noise. Other improvements include a super-smooth tape surface to improve head-to-tape contact along with a re-enforced protective DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating for better headwear. Finally, enhancements to the lubricant technology result in a more stable running tape with a lower coefficient of friction.
